Commitment to Sourcing Excellence: Bordertown Coffee places paramount importance on the origin and quality of its beans. They meticulously select their suppliers, often favoring direct trade relationships where possible. This focus ensures that every cup served reflects the unique terroir and the hard work of the farmers. Patrons can taste the difference that thoughtful sourcing makes, appreciating the nuanced flavor profiles that emerge from high-quality raw materials handled with expertise.
Artisanal Preparation Methods: The baristas at Bordertown are true craftspeople. They approach every order—be it a meticulously pulled espresso shot or a slow-drip pour-over—with precision and passion. They are knowledgeable about various brewing techniques and are always willing to guide customers through the options, explaining why a certain method might best highlight the characteristics of a specific roast. This dedication to the technical side of coffee preparation elevates the daily ritual into an art form.

It serves as a meeting point, a workspace, and a quiet refuge. The management actively seeks to integrate with the local community, often featuring local artists or hosting small, informal gatherings that reinforce its role as a supportive neighborhood institution.
Thoughtful Menu Offerings: While coffee remains the star, the accompanying food selection is curated to complement the beverages perfectly. Expect high-quality, often locally sourced baked goods and light fare that align with the café’s commitment to quality over quantity. These items are designed to enhance the coffee experience without overshadowing it, providing the perfect accompaniment for a morning boost or an afternoon treat.
The location itself, situated conveniently in Southeast Minneapolis, makes it accessible yet slightly removed from the downtown hustle, offering a genuine local flavor that many seek out. It’s a place where the pace slows down just enough for genuine connection to occur, whether that connection is with a new acquaintance or simply with the rich aroma of freshly ground beans.

This has become one of my favorite coffee shops. The best part? I always get the chai with oat milk and it is delicious! I’ve also had their chia pudding and recommend it. The staff is always super kind and I love chatting with them when … More

Beautiful, rustic, and inviting. This coffee shop is not in some corporate building but rather a renovated old frat house! It has multiple floors, and instead of just one big room like most places, it’s literally a house. You just walk … More

Bordertown Coffee in Dinky Town, Minneapolis is like a hidden spot because you won’t realize it’s a coffee shop unless you already know before and see the sign at the door. It’s cozy and inviting spot that immediately stands out for its atmosphere. The vintage, classic style creates a warm and relaxing vibe, making it an ideal place to study, hang out with friends, or simply enjoy a quiet afternoon with a good drink. The ambience alone deserves a full 5/5, as it combines a sense of history with a welcoming community feel.
When it comes to the menu, the offerings are solid and satisfying. I especially enjoyed the London Fog, which caught my attention as a tea lover, it was a perfect first try, fragrant, smooth, and comforting. I also tried a lemon-flavored cake (though I can’t recall the exact name), which balanced sweet and sour notes beautifully. For me, the food earns a strong 4/5, as the quality was good and complemented the drinks well.
The service was also friendly and attentive, with staff who seemed genuinely welcoming and helpful. While there was nothing over-the-top, it was consistently good and added to the positive experience, earning a 4/5 in this category.
I definitely will visit and try other drinks.

Great cafe!! Such a lovely place with the best staff!!! The staff here are the best part to me, they're always so kind and put in their all. The vibes of this cafe are so rustic and cozy. It sucks you right in and keeps you there! Their drinks are pretty good, nothing special, but they do special wonders with giving me caffine haha. I'd recommend getting a chocolate chip cookie with your drink because they are humongous and so tasty. This place gets insanely busy while in semester. I'd suggest coming as early as possible to avoid crowds and secure a spot because they definitely will all be taken up when you want to visit. I often see people almost waiting on the side searching for someone to leave so they can sit. Because it's so busy, it also gets pretty loud. This wouldn't be my study spot choice, but it is a nice spot to meet up with friends for a chat. Parking isn't the best, very limited paid street parking. Walking or taking a bus here is a better option to take.

This is one of the coziest spots in Dinkytown, especially when they get a fire going in the winter. The people working there are wonderful and cool, and the matcha there is the best I’ve ever had. If you’re lucky enough to catch it, grab … More

Study cafe that can get very busy during the weekends. It can get hard to hear each other when it’s very busy. The drinks are okay and the interior decoration is very nice and minimal.
